• England 1-1 Croatia
• Chelsea’s Nathaniel Chalobah scores equaliser

England Under-19s had to settle for a point in the opening game of the European Championship in Estonia. Noel Blake’s side drew 1-1 with Croatia in Tallinn, coming from behind thanks to a 60th-minute equaliser from Chelsea’s Nathaniel Chalobah.

Croatia went ahead through Domagoj Pavicic four minutes before Ch alobah’s powerful shot. England had struggled in the first half with the Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone forced into a string of saves but then gained in confidence and Croatia’s opener was against the run of play.

“I suppose when you come from behind you’ve got to be reasonably satisfied but overall I thought in the first half Croatia had the better opportunities to have scored maybe one or two more,” said the head coach Blake. “But I thought in the second half there was only one team going to win the game and that was us. I was really pleased with our second half performance.”

France beat Serbia 3-0 in the other Group B game. England now take ona Serbian side who know they will have to win next, on Friday in order to give themselves a realistic chance of progressing in the competition. © 2012 Guardian News and Media Limited or its affiliated companies.
