Euro 2012: Late run earns Vladimir Darida place in Czech Republic squad
• 21-year-old earns place in final 23 with display in friendly
• Czech Republic face Russia, Poland and Greece in Group A
The Czech Republic manager, Michal Bilek, has included Viktoria Plzen midfielder Vladimir Darid a in his final squad for Euro 2012. The 21-year-old was a late addition in place of Daniel Pudil, having impressed in a 2-1 victory over Israel on Saturday.
“In his half an hour he played very well, asked for the ball, made great passes and took shots,” said Bilek. “He looked like a player who had lots of caps, not one who was making his first appearance.”
Bilek’s other selection issue was over his goalkeepers, having named four in his provisional 24-man squad earlier this month. Petr Cech, Jaroslav Droby and Jan Lastuvka are included, with Tomas Grigar missing out.
The Czechs play Russia in their opening game on 8 June, with Poland and Greece also in their group.
